Perth

After a 3 day trip I arrived in Perth last night. Wow my sense of direction and travel know how has gone. I got completely lost getting to my hostel and arrived about an hour after I got to Perth which should only have taken me about 15mins. Also hostel was completely grotty so fairly pissed off havign goten up at 5.30am. Then leaving this morning I went the completely wrong direction and ended up miles from where I wanted to be. I ask you!

Now I'm in the nice new YHA, with free internet which rocks. It makes such a difference to have freindly staff and a nice clean, bright hostel. I was going to do a tour of the south west but as it's Easter everythings closed so i'm just going to stay in Perth and do some day tours instead. I'm only here till wednesday as i'm then taking the train to Adelaide for next weekend then heading to Tas yipee. Really excited about the next few weeks and then i'm ending my time on OZ adn flying back to NZ.

Photo's of the West Coast to follow soon.

Carnarvon

So what have I been up to in Carnarvon well apart from checking out the position of firstly Cyclone Glenda (luckily didn't come to anything ) and now Cyclone Harold who's on route. Have been catching up on a little R & R.

Cyclone prep involved going to the pool where Erryn works, setting up the aqua run and having heaps of fun product testing before all the little kids had a go!

Been checking out some of the sights as well this is the NASA dish used when the first man landed on the moon to beam the pictures to the rest of OZ. Erryn also took us to the blowholes which were neat, followed by a bit of snorkeling. They also have a 1 mile jetty here which I walked to a couple of times.

I'm heading off on my travel again tonight. First stop is Coral Bay then a three day trip to Perth. Stopping at Monkey Mia where dolphins come up to you in the water and a bit of hiking then into Perth on Tuesday.

Very excited about Perth as I've just discovered they have a place called penguin Island so you can guess where I'm going to try and visit!

Broome Pictures

This is the Sun cinema in Broome. Looks really relaxing watching a film under the stars in your deck chair. Don't think I'd have fancied it when Cyclone Glenda hit though, may have been a bit damp.

This is one of the many headstones from the Japanese cemetery. The cemetery was built due to the early pearling industry in Broome where many people lost their lives to the sea.

Here's an original pearling boat which was used to go fishing for oysters. As it was manly Asians who operated these vessels, Broome's main town centre is a Chinatown with a great Chinese restaurant

The long and winding road

Only a few Kms driven and a few more to go. this was a road house on route to Broome and we were quite shocked at the distances we'd come. Remember we started this leg in Darwin and 1.61kms = 1 Mile.
